Entrance of the Conference - Rio de Janeiro, Brazil |
Servas Brazil took part of the Rio+20 – the UN Conference on Sustainable Development . The conference organization created
Side Events (SE) as a parallel meetings for Major Groups participation– NGOs., Indigenous
People, scientists, etc. It’s held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
from June 13th. to 22nd. at Rio Centro Exhibition facilities.
The conference outline is based on two themes: (a) a green economy
in the context of sustainable development poverty eradication and (b) the
institutional framework for sustainable development. Linked to themes, there
are seven great areas concerned: decent jobs, energy, sustainable cities, food
security and sustainable agriculture, water, oceans and disaster readiness, and
on which Side Events (SEs.) were built up .
Side Event on Volunteerism - June 22, 2012 |
Many subjects are discussed during these meetings: economics, biodiversity, food, oceans, jobs ,etc. All of them related to sustainable development.
Great part of SEs
participants were members of UN system – ECOSOC, UNV, UNWTO, UNDESA, etc. – but
foreign authorities also added different perspectives and experiences to those
discussions as well as traditional NGOs.
Servas
Brazil suggested participation in the conference because among other reasons
it’d be a great opportunity to reinforce Servas commitments to environment,
sustainable development indeed.
Thus, peace,
conflicts, responsible tourism, volunteerism were the guideline themes which lightened our
choices in terms of SEs and and agreed with Servas International and National Secretary.
