4th INTERNATIONAL YOUTH SERVAS CONFERENCE. XOCHICALCO, MEXICO, 2010.
It is impossible to describe with words all the feelings which I still coping with, but anyway, I’ll do an effort. Advise: This is more a personal essay than a formal report.
I go once, two, all the possible times to the airport to pick visitors and also to say goodbye. But it is not only because I live close. It is because I feel that in this place you musn’t be alone. You must be feel welcomed, and also feel loved when you return, to have a lovely farewell, especially if you are SERVAS. As well, I wanted to think every time “I’ll be here soon, in september will be my turn, to be with my lovest one.” (Rodolfo Alvarado, National Deputy for Servas México, now studying and working in Germany because of a scholarship).
And while we study and discuss the new policies of SI, also laugh at the swimming pool, since for some is their first time in an International Conference and travelling with SERVAS, so Paulo from Panama personify J ohn and baptized Reut, from Israel . Paulo is baptized for Mafe, from Brazil. (Who doesn’t know Mafe? We fight to have her in our homes).
Martin Krajcik (he gave us part of a peace course; na foto ao lado) made us think about our lives and together discovered a very important element. We are connected by SERVAS. Made a human knot, written our lives in a piece of paper, sharing our different activities around the globe, our little contribution to the peace, acting in an instantaneous performance or playing with a team spirit, founding and discussing discrimination, injustice and “the rules of the game called society”, we enjoyed and learned a lot about ourselves and our role in SERVAS.
With Pablo Chufeni, we not only talked about SYLE, we made an agreement: Fatima from Mexico will be visiting Austria, and Yelbi from Costa Rica will organise the first one in his country. Out of the record we discussed about our participation in the next Tri-National Conference in Seattle.
I was so glad to see so much energy in our youngsters. We were a few, is true, but the reunion was full of love, and I must say (the other must have to pardon me) fluent with “Latinamerican Power”, in all senses.
To have Gary Sealey and Rita Dessauvage with us was a great experience and an honour. The few days and words Gary shared with us were enough to moved us and to think about what we are doing and what we want to do not only for SERVAS but also for peace, truly PEACE.
The sun of Xochicalco joint us in a picture. The wonder of the Grutas made us feel small. The fire of an aztec ceremony made us feel our energy, the powerful sense of a hug, of a tear, we don’t need words to express what we feel. I’ve just met you, but I’ll always carry you in my heart. I know and hope that, wherever we are, you and I, will be working for peace, with all our energy, with all our hearts.
I danced with Mafe (Brazil) , worked with Martin (Canada) , kept the... secret? of the birthday celebration of Francesca (Italy) , changed clothes with Mausi (Argentina), laughed with Jorge (Argentina), shared with Reut (Israel), felt moved with the energy and affection of Chufeni, who I admire profoundly. Felt honoured to meet Rita (our Godmother, from Belgium) and Gary. I also adopted a son!! (Yelbi, from Costa Rica). To say it all, I felt important, I felt truly loved. Not everything was perfect, non a fairy tale, of course, but definitely it was profitable, it was intimate, it was an strong experience.
I want to say THANKS to my Mexican team, to Gary, To Rita, to my old and new friends, to each one who make possible this Conference to happen. I not only made new friends, worked for and learned more from SERVAS. I decided to participate more actively, and I am doing it right now. We built a real brotherhood in this meeting. THANKS SERVAS, FOR GIVING ME SO MUCH.
